Collection of articles regarding online
freedom/liberty/privacy
Many of the articles here come from places like Slashdot and Kuro5hin. I'm not addicted
enough to those kinds of sites, and I haven't read a tenth of
promil of the articles there, and linked here only the ones
which I read and found relevant/interesting. If you want more,
go to those sites directly, you'll probably find much more of
interest there.
Free software/information, licensing, and law issues
- 2002-09-07 – An article at
Advogato about freedom of
choice – and the way sticking to one software development
methodology, be it (just some examples) commercial, proprietary,
or free software, hurts us in general.
- 2002-02-07 – An article from
Eric S. Raymond about the case
of Quake cheats as considered by John Carmack, CEO of Id
Software, on the release of the Quake source code under the GNU
GPL.
- 2001-05-07 – An article
at Slashdot about the EULA (End User License Agreement) of
Microsoft's Mobile Internet Toolkit, or rather, about the
section in it prohibition the use of the SDK to develop free
software under many common licenses (Including the GNU
General Public License, the Artistic license, the Mozilla
Public License, and any license which prevents you from
re-licensing your software under another license, A.K.A
copyleft). The link to Microsoft's EULA there is broken, and
I couldn't find it (please contact me if you know where it
can be found), but I can copy the quote which appeared there
(at Slashdot) from it with the relevant clause word by word.
Take a look here. This is
defining the GNU GPL (and other copyleft licenses) as
viral software
- 2001-03-07 – An article
at Kuro5hin about the future of information rights.
Privacy and personal information issues
- Well, not really an article, but an RFC regarding Spam...
RFC
3098 will most probably not help the existing spammers,
but more likely help the ones who are not understand what is
bad about it.
